Copperas Cove, Texas. A 29-year-old woman was shot and killed early Thursday morning, and police say the man accused in her death is now behind bars in neighboring Killeen.
Shooting Reported Overnight
Officers with the Copperas Cove Police Department responded to a call reporting gunfire in the 700 block of Constitution Drive at around 12:28 a.m. on July 16.
When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Police and Copperas Cove EMS crews worked to save her life at the scene, but she did not survive her injuries. Authorities have not released her name publicly, saying they are waiting until her family has been notified.
Investigators say a witness at the scene was able to identify the shooter and told officers that the victim and the suspect knew each other. That witness also gave police a description of the vehicle the suspect was driving away in, information that was quickly passed along to other law enforcement agencies in the area so they could be on the lookout.

That alert paid off. Officers with the Killeen Police Department found the suspect and took him into custody not long after the shooting. He is now being held in the Killeen Police Department’s jail in Bell County on a murder charge.
Police in Killeen have indicated he may face additional charges tied to the circumstances of his arrest, though those details have not yet been made public. His name has also not been released.
Because the victim and suspect reportedly knew each other, investigators believe this was not a random attack, though officials have not said what may have led up to the shooting. Neighbors in the Constitution Drive area were met Thursday morning with a heavy police presence as officers processed the scene and gathered evidence.
