A man is dead after a shooting near the Santa Monica Pier early Monday morning, and police are still searching for whoever pulled the trigger.
Santa Monica police and paramedics were called to a parking lot on the north side of the pier around 12:30 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics tried to save him at the scene, but he did not survive.
The victim has only been described as an adult man. His identity had not been released as of Monday morning, and no arrests had been made.
What Led to the Shooting
According to investigators, the shooting followed a physical fight between two groups of people. Police have not said what sparked that altercation or whether the shooter and victim knew each other.

“I’m not surprised,” said Doug, a Santa Monica resident. “There’s a lot of crime down here, unfortunately, and it doesn’t seem to be getting much better.”
